Hi Group, A friend and I are building a pair of NCNG #9s in 5" scale / 15" gauge live steam. We have good drawings of the locomotive and access to a nearly identical locomotive (Death Valley RR #2, also a Baldwin, is the same except the length and wheelbase have been stretched 2 feet), but the tender is another matter. I have some books and drawings that have appeared in magazines, but detailed tender drawings, especially of the trucks, would be very helpful. We are leaning toward building the arch bar trucks that the tender carried late in it's life but if we had the Baldwin drop equalizer truck drawings, we may build them instead. Are the arch bar trucks the same as freight car trucks except with leaf springs instead of coils? I have seen glimpses of trucks in photos taken at the NCNG museum that appear to be the same, except they have coil springs.... Does anyone have pictures of these trucks at the museum? A trip to the museum is planned for this year... The 2nd pic is a rough mock up of the engine, using a piece of steel channel the correct length of the frame, to test the tracking of the engine around curves. The "engineer" looks almost scale! Thanks guys. Regards, Jon
